Reducers are essential components in piping systems, used to connect pipes of different diameters. There are two main types of reducers: eccentric and concentric. Each type has specific characteristics and is used in different applications, depending on system requirements.
🔹 Eccentric Reducers 🔹
These reducers have an asymmetrical design, where the center of the inlet and outlet diameters do not align. One surface is flat, while the other inclines downward.
👉🏾 Primarily used in horizontal piping systems.
👉🏾 Commonly applied in pump suction lines to prevent air pockets from forming.
👉🏾 Placement:
- The flat side is positioned at the top for bottom-up suction.
- The flat side is positioned at the bottom for top-down suction.
🔸 Concentric Reducers 🔸
These reducers have a symmetrical design, where the center of the inlet and outlet diameters align, forming a uniform conical section.
👉🏾 Primarily used in vertical piping systems.
👉🏾 Provides a smoother flow and is easier and more cost-effective to align than the eccentric variant.
👉🏾 Typically found at the pump discharge, ensuring a smooth transition from the pump outlet diameter to the main pipeline diameter.
